Hands up if you knew that iubi = internet network + ubiquitous (anytime, anyplace). No? Thought not. Not to worry though — this Korean newcomer (sure, it was founded in 1994 but we’re not exactly on first-name terms) appears to have its R&D claws sunk firmly into the portable media player space with the release of the rather attractive PMP 2020.

One of the most predictable announcements of the month came today in Tokyo when the HD DVD Promotion Group stood up to welcome Microsoft and Intel aboard as full members. We’re not about to predict that this will make a whole heap of difference when it comes to the battle with Blu-ray, but it certainly makes things a little more interesting with big-hitters like those two forming their alliances. Today, while checking out the downtown Tokyo geek paradise that is Akihabara, I was taken aback by a new store right next to the second-hand emporium Sofmap No.11. The reason for my surprise? It’s a non-Apple, Apple-only shop known to its friends as The Mac Store.
