Axes must be making HDD makers happy with its Pict star VP8360-B/100, which packs in 100GB of storage in the name of playing the roles of both PMP and RAW-capable photo storage unit.
The bulky-looking PMP comes with a 3.6in screen and can handle the usual range of video and audio formats, including AVI, MOV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, MP3, WMA (7-9), AAC and WAV, but there’s no OGG support.
Still images it can decipher are JPEG, TIFF, BMP and RAW. To offload photos from a digital camera, there are slots for CompactFlash, Memory Stick and SD cards; MMCs and Microdrives are also supported. To view them again, there’s TV output in either PAL or NTSC and there’s even an onboard mic or line-in option. Phew.
The unit measures 135 x 72 x 23mm, weighs 236g and goes on sale July 10 for ¥69,800.
