Sony confirms end of line for XEL-1 OLED TV

After press reports suggesting sales in Japan would be ending, Sony today confirmed it won’t be carrying on with the groundbreaking XEL-1 OLED TV set.

While the high price (¥200,000) and tiny screen (11 inches) meant it was never likely to sell much, the XEL-1 was the first in its class. There’s no word yet on whether this means an end to OLED work at Sony or if it just prepares the ground for bigger, more affordable models.
