DoCoMo’s new phones drop old branding, bring us lots more of the same

Like anyone who’s easily put off by ridiculous levels of gadgetry, I’m not very impressed by most Japanese cellphones, so I’ll just point you in the direction of DoCoMo’s newly revealed fleet of 22 new handsets.

Naturally, there are plenty of tweaks to existing hardware and services, but the most significant aspect might be the company’s shift away from the old number-based naming system (90x and 70x series before) to across-the-board names.

The new phones come in four categories – Style Series, Prime Series, Smart Series and Pro Series. So, which one are you? We all get the idea, DoCoMo, so here’s hoping for some substance to back up the rebranding.

Here’s a link to the press release and photos of the newcomers.

PS Just so’s ya know - I love stuff like the RFID-based Osaifu Keitai, ok?
