Is Hitachi robot a rip-off?

This might turn out to be a bunch of Hong Kong phooey, but has Hitachi ripped off MobileRobot’s Pioneer-DX design? That’s the claim MR is making about big H’s security robot, which has been doing the media rounds in Tokyo this week.

MR says that the bubble cover on Hitachi’s already hilariously Star Wars Episode IV-esque garbage-bin bot may be hiding the DX within. What may (or may not) be giving the game away are the dodgy gold wheel rims, which do look suspiciously like MR’s and which wouldn’t look out of place on a kiddie’s toy wheelbarrow.

So what’s under the hood, Hitachi?
