You’ve probably experienced at least some of the sprawling movie franchise, the theme-park ride and the series of video games, so why not go the whole hog and check out the new Pirates of the Caribbean café in Tokyo’s bay area?
The themed café has been set up in the futuristic Fuji Television building in the Daiba area of Tokyo Bay and will be running with the Pirates theme until December 6. Naturally, it’s all about promoting the forthcoming DVD of the second film in the tedious trilogy, which is released in Japan on the day the café closes.
Kraken with your fries, sir?
Inside the café, there’s plenty for hard-core fans of the Johnny Depp-led tomfoolery, including original costumes and props from the movies, themed menus (try the “Captain’s Hat” chicken) and marketing reminders galore, such as the Dead Man’s Chest board game and the various video games to take home as souvenirs.

Cynicism aside, the layout of the café is actually rather pleasant the main dining area has been, ahem, “decked” out like a pirate ship, with a many-tentacled Kraken looming over proceedings. Anyone in Tokyo in the next couple of weeks should certainly check the café out for some light relief from the endless temples and gadget shops that try us so.
