The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the apparent hacking of a computer in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office.

The investigation was launched after a digital recording of a private conversation Schwarzenegger had with some of his staff members earlier this year was leaked last week to the Los Angeles Times, according to CHP spokesman Tom Marshal.

“We are looking into the security of the computer systems” at the governor’s office, Marshal said, noting that the leaked recording was obtained from a computer there.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Marshal did not offer any details on when the computer might have been accessed or how many computers may be involved.

The six-minute recording obtained by the newspaper was of an informal meeting in March that Schwarzenegger had with his chief of staff, his chief speechwriter and a TV director, according to the story, which was published on Friday.

In the conversation, Schwarzenegger is recorded making several candid comments about the state’s Republican legislators, according to the Times article. Schwarzenegger is heard describing Republican legislators as a “wild bunch” and referring to a Republican assemblywoman as being “very hot” because of her fiery personality.
