Help is on its way for all of you who are sick of breaking optical discs with your bare hands: the impressively named PLEXERASER.
This laser-equipped box of destruction can wipe your data off the face of the planet (well, ok, off the face of an 8- or 12cm disc) in minutes for DVD±R DL/±R/±RW and CD-R/RW, although it doesn’t work with CD- and DVD-ROMs or DVD-RAM. For when it does work, you’re looking at a strip rate of 3 minutes for a single- and 6 minutes for a dual-layer DVD.
Plextor’s 167.1 x 253.5 x 53mm, 1.7kg PLEXERASER will cost about ¥25,000 when it goes on sale in the middle of September.

Yoshi’s take: Nice, but not as viscerally satisfying as this. (And can’t anyone come up with a device that will only erase Mariah Carey CDs?)
