Analog TV switch-off jumbo countdown clock
July 25th, 2006

Yesterday marked the start of the final five years of analog television broadcasts here in Japan, so what better way to celebrate than with a huge countdown clock and a bunch of gray politicians?

The clock ticking off the 1,826 days until analog switch-off is on the front of the Hankyu department store in Ginza, which puts it in prime position to remind recalcitrant shoppers that they’d better open their wallets and splash for a jumbo HD plasma ASAP. Mammon rules, ok?

Yoshi’s take: Yesterday we had the death of CRTs, now the analog switchoff; if this is the future I want my money back.
