Blu-ray HD DVD peace breaking out thanks to Ricoh?

Remember our story on how Samsung wanted to dish out olive branches, release doves of peace and put a stop to the high-def format war by cooking up a dual-format Blu-ray HD DVD player?

Well, now Ricoh is also in the running for a Nobel Prize, having admitted it has an optical writer that can lay down pretty much every format, including the Big Two.

Naturally, the whole peace movement will crumble in the face of whichever camp spends most on marketing and makes the right software (i.e. movie distribution) deals but we’re wondering if a mulit-format player war isn’t about to break out?
