Hey – you know those boring old forms of carbon we’re so familiar with? Yeah - diamond, graphite, amorphous carbon, fullerenes and nanotubes, right?
Well, think again and check out the latest member of the carbon club, a newly discovered variant that has been modeled by researchers in Japan.
Scientists at Tohoku University say the 3D carbon substance should be able to conduct electricity like a metal if it’s ever manufactured.
To do that, they’ll need to work out how to stack rings of ten joined carbon atoms in the required arrangement. Should be a piece of cake for these guys.
