Buffalo’s bumper body HDDs both promise and deliver
July 26th, 2006

Buffalo, whose decent HDDs are always reasonably priced, is helping butterfingers with its latest shock-resistant portable hard-drives.

The USB 2.0, 195g HD-PHGU2/UC series 40GB model is supposed to withstand falls of up to 1 meter and has a data encryption function to boot. It’s 127 x 23 x 84mm, comes in silver or black and will cost ¥40,000 when it goes on sale in early August. And has there ever been a better name than “Bumper body?”

Yoshi’s take: Guys like me usually get into trouble when commenting on bumper bodies, so I’ll just posit that $350 for a 40GB drive is kinda costly, whatever you call it.
