Canon will, in the second half of next year, start selling an inkjet printer that can print direct from digital TVs. The printer can be used to make hard copies of broadcast information, such as discount coupons featured in an ad.
The as-yet-nameless printer will cost around ¥50,000 in Japan. Pleasingly, Canon does plan to sell it in the U.S. and Europe at a later date, which the company isn’t disclosing yet.
The move seems to be part of a long and essential ritual by printer companies to make new ways for us to buy their (and only their) not inexpensive ink cartridges, sales of which are the financial lifeblood of the likes of Canon, Seiko Epson and Lexmark. (Epson already incorporates printers in some of its TVs and likes, it seems, to attach printers to just about anything inanimate.)
Canon, remember, has also teamed with Toshiba to make its surface conduction electron emitter display (SED) flat panel TVs.
Interactive TV has long been touted as the next big thing in broadcasting, along with HD. With links to meta-information, interactive menus and information already built into terrestrial digital broadcasting, which is expanding nationwide next year, it looks as though Japan is really delivering on that promise. On paper, too.

Canon have always been the best in printing business. I have try almost all other brands Epson, HP, but Canon remain the best.
