Casio brain training calculator

Here’s something that may bring back delightful or horror-stricken memories for you. Casio has two educational calculators that are supposed to work with the very Japanese Hyaku Masu Keisan (Hundred Square Calculation) arithmetic training method that was invented by a Japanese elementary school teacher in Hiroshima called Hideo Kageyama.

The system trains children by putting them through calculations in a 10 x 10 grid. (Kind Mr. Kageyama also has a version for adults called Kageyama Hideo no No Ikiiki! Otona no Keisan Purinto (An Energized Brain with Kageyama Hideo: Math Worksheets for Adults), in case you’re interested.)

The Casio EN-100 and EN-200 are designed to work with the method, but also have other games and puzzles designed to turn little Taro or Keiko into the next Richard Feynman. Or perhaps to drive them into entering as a Big Brother contestant? You can get with the program for ¥4,725.
