Communications Ministry: ditch your analog TV
May 6th, 2006

Blurry image of the future? According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, fewer than 1 in 10 Japanese — you know, those folks thought of as the world’s savviest consumers — are aware that their analog TVs will be junk five years from now.

The government plans to join digital TV makers in an effort to let everyone know that analog broadcasting ends on July 24, 2011. The goal is to avoid a repeat of the recent debacle in which the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry failed to adequately publicize its April 1 enforcement of a law banning the resale of secondhand electrical goods.
