It’s been just over a month since Sony’s Alpha DSLR-A100 hit the shelves, but the camera has already grabbed almost a quarter of Japan’s digital SLR market.

During the first week of its release in late July, the Alpha vaulted over competitors from Cannon and Nikon, snagging a 35 percent market share. Though sales of the 10-megapixel, ¥100,000 camera have since slipped, the success of Sony’s first digital SLR is assured. Remember, you heard it here — er, from Camera Labs — first.
