D80 D-SLR details from Nikon
August 9th, 2006

Today’s the day that Nikon was supposed to reveal (nearly) all the details about its D80, and the company has duly delivered.

So, what you’re looking at is a 10-megapixel, ¥120,000 D-SLR camera that goes on sale September 1. The lens kit pushes things up to ¥160,000.

At 132 x 77 x 103mm and 585g, the ISO100-3200 D80 is one chunky lump of photographic excellence. But it’s actually lighter and smaller than the D70s. You’re also getting 12-bit digital image processing algorithms and a 420-pixel sensor.

Backing this up is an 11-area AF system and ISO AUTO mode that automatically adjusts between ISO 100 and 1,600. The camera also features six manual settings, and it’s probably faster than you are, as it only takes 0.18 seconds to power up and has an 80ms time lag on shutter release. OK, OK, you’re a digital Jedi!
