Deaf Japanese student speaks no English yet gets UK degree

This story of the Japanese guy who went to the UK to study for an advanced degree even though he speaks no English and is totally deaf is both encouraging and bizarre.

Aside from the good vibes all round generated by the way Ken Onishi used Manchester University’s technology and resources to pass his master’s, one has to ask how on Earth he got on the course and why he even wanted to do so in the first place.

Fair play to him for the size of his cojones, though. PhD here we come.
