Digital TV and more from DoCoMo

We’ve recently been griping about the miserable appearance of many Japanese cellphones, however NTT DoCoMo’s latest announcement is making us feel a little foolish. Sure, the P901iTV is still a heavy clunky thing, but just look at the guts of the beast.

First off, the Panasonic-produced handset is the first in Japan to receive digital terrestrial TV broadcasts. Second, that gorgeous-looking screen is a full 2.5in wide ‘un. Third, Big D has signed the P901iTV up to the Osaifu-Keitai program, meaning it can be used as e-cash, a credit card, a train pass and more. Lastly, it’s a 3G FOMA celly that, for example, integrates your favored TV shows with online content via i-mode. Humble pie anyone?
