After days of teasing us with pre-show events and pre-pre-show parties, E3 finally opened its doors this morning and we’re braving the packed, sweaty show floor to bring you a close-up look at the goodies from the major players, starting with a spin round Sony’s stand.
The PS3 stand appears to be set up pretty similar to last year’s, with a foreboding exterior concealing giant screens running game demos. Not much seems to have changed, although what is on show includes the impressive Heavenly Sword (nice ‘n blurry pic below) and Eye of Judgment.
This year, of course, the biggest difference in terms of what we can see at the show is that there are actual playable versions of games still in the pipeline. Everything is running from a couple of racks of dev kit machines but the lucky folk among the first to get their hands on PS3 games clearly don’t mind.
Away from the PS3 throng, there appears to be a bit of life left in the PS2 yet, with a few dozen new titles on display at varying stages of completeness. Standout among them is an English-language version of Final Fantasy XII (rated at 80% complete), although we fancy the chance of a pipe-hittin’ rumble with everyone’s favorite Japanese gangsters, the yakuza.
That’ll do it on the grown-up PlayStation front we’re off to check out the PSP fiesta next.
