
In addition to technologies such as vein pattern recognition already in use at ATMs in Japan, it looks like we’ll soon be able to withdraw or deposit money via cellphones. Major Japanese financial conglomerate Sumitomo Mitsui Banking is teaming up with DoCoMo to extend the Felica e-wallet system to cash machines.
SM is going to deck out about 7,000 ATMs initially. As with other Felica services, you wave your phone over the reader, then bang in your PIN number. Check out the following link for a fairly simple and readable summary of this technology area’s growth in Japan.
