As we mentioned earlier, Vodafone Japan used this morning’s press event to unveil a few new handsets for the summer. Of the five shown today, three are W-CDMA 3G models and two are 2G phones on the old PDC network.
Among the 3G handsets, there’s very little of interest the 705T from Toshiba is plastered with the STNY fashion brand (which we’ve never heard of); the 705SH from Sharp has a RAZR-like etched keypad; and the 804NK is a rare-for-Japan Nokia clamshell. Digicams are all between 1 and 2 megapixels and the usual range of Vodafone services are supported.
The 2G models are the 201SH by Sharp (top), which is to be sold as a pre-paid handset only, and the Toshiba 304T (below), designed to be easy to use for old folk and kids. The latter has one interesting feature we often long for on full-featured phones, which is a physical switch on the body for turning off the ringer or going to flight mode.
The 201SH actually is the most appealing phone of the bunch announced today, mainly because it’s a straightforward handset, with no camera and weighs just 79g. That’s really what most folk want, isn’t it, or are we just jaded with life on the cutting edge here?
