Flashing laser virtual piano on the way
August 5th, 2006

Have piano, will travel. Hardly rolls off the tongue, does it? Well, say hello to the laser-zapper Vertual [sic] Piano from a company called Digital Information Development, or DID.

The VP uses red semiconductor laser beams to project piano keys on a surface of your choice — any non-black surface, that is. You get a 25-key, 2-octave keyboard with a CMOS camera and IR module that lets the device know you’re pounding out Beethoven’s Fifth.

You can also use the VP as a harpsichord, pipe organ or organ. And all this can be done via the 10 x 3 x 3cm … er … beaming device-thingy for ¥15,000. It weighs just 100g and should be in shops around November.

Yoshi’s take: Very, um, offbeat. Wonder how it actually sounds.
