
Scientists at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) and Kyoto University have succeeded in figuring out, er…something to do with the mechanism at work in the glowing tail of the so-called Genji firefly. Understanding bioluminescence could lead to breakthroughs in the development of short-term emergency lighting for use during blackouts. Or maybe not.
