HD DVD laptop from Toshiba

Toshiba_HDDVD.jpg

Busy people, Toshiba — now they tell us they’ve come up with the world’s first laptop with an HD DVD-ROM drive, which is nice if you’re into that whole early adoption thing.

Although the new drive can’t write in HD, it can burn both regular CDs and DVDs, so we all know what it’s going to be good for, although we expect it to be mightily expensive when it hits the street in early 2006 — certainly over US$2,000 is our bet.

As with Toshiba’s new cameraphone chip, the new laptop will be on show at the annual CEATEC electronics bonanza in Tokyo next week, so we’ll try to scoop a few snaps for you at that.
