Imagineer game/alarm for kids
December 29th, 2005

With a spate of child killings fresh in the minds of Japanese parents, Imagineer has released a bohan buzaa (literally, “crime prevention buzzer”) that’s also equipped with an LCD game for kids.

The idea behind the Rirakuma (which, as far as we can figure out, means “Relaxed Bear” or perhaps “Cool Bear”) is to transform the widely used but lackluster portable alarm into a sort of Tamagotchi — that’s to say, a toy that kids will automatically want to carry around with them. Which strikes us as a great idea.

The Rirakuma is aimed at children aged 6 and up, and it costs just ¥3,150. The device went on sale yesterday at department stores in Japan.
