Neutrino detector back from brink

Everyone’s favorite neutrino detection facility, the Super-Kamiokande in Gifu, looks like it’s almost ready to go back online and resume supernova-monitoring duty by summer.

The University of Tokyo mega machine lies a kilometer underground and was crippled by a chain-reaction implosion of photomultiplier tubes in 2001.
