Oyo earthquake survivor scanner
October 12th, 2005

Although this was announced last week, the weekend’s earthquake centered on Kashmir has brought Oyo’s earthquake survivor detector a little more sharply into focus. The SAR2700 uses the faint electromagnetic signals emitted from survivors buried in rubble and picked up by an array of antennae placed around the site under scrutiny to work out where to look. The results from the antennae are relayed to a handheld controller that appears to be running Windows CE, which then gives a readout of where folk trapped under masonry are likely to be.
