Sony to be battered by dangerous Dell batteries

Sony’s flogging of 4.1 million explosively dodgy PC batteries to Dell could end up making a flaming mess of the company’s finances, according to analysts.

Repeated flameouts and news that Dell might have been concealing 100s of battery-instigated big bangs inside its PCs (statistically negligent — until one spontaneously combusts on your lap) might cost Sony somewhere between ¥25 billion and ¥35 billion, depending on the analyst.

Considering Sony expects to make ¥130 billion profit this year, the price of shoddy production and quality control could really explode its bottom line.

Yoshi’s take: Just when you think Sony’s got its act together, they do something to remind you of this and this and this.
