Thank Takara for the music

Takara’s Music Shower is a DAP interesting for the chosen method of attack on its target audience; pre- and early-teen girls. By emphasizing the fact that the ¥9,975 device can encode to MP3 from a standard line-in, Takara is attempting to open a relatively untapped market.

Basically, any analog input gets churned real-time into an MP3 file, so the “most common music sources” for kids (i.e. CD or MD players) now become rich sources of, ahem, free music. “More sophisticated users” can even take advantage of adult things like the included USB cable to transfer MP3s or WMAs. Oddly, the actually memory capacity isn’t stated, but the device can encode up to two hours by itself.
