Toast Girl shows us the way ahead

Guess who we met last night? Aw — how’d you know it was Toast Girl, Japan’s most-celebrated bread-based, fortune-telling performance artist?

“Call me Toastie,” she insisted, so we did. Quivering on jelly knees, we listened to tales of her ability to tell all our futures by watching just how we slid slices of thick white bread into the machine atop her head.

She was gentle on us this time; we had a choice of either slot and we intended to make it count. Pop — light brown on both sides; we’re done. Literally.
