Vodafone unveils new Softbank logo
August 16th, 2006

And what a miserable, boring, wretchedly uninspiring lump of ugly gray it is as well.

The new logo is, unsurprisingly, based on the Softbank logo, which itself is derived from the Meiji Era Kaientai flag adopted by Ryoma Sakamoto. The silver is supposed to reflect Softbank’s commitment to provide better products and services. Of course it is. Blindingly obvious, right?

Well, we hope so. After Big-V went in and wrecked J-Phone, we’re banking on Son’s Softbank outfit to do the business in Japan, lowering prices and refocusing bloated DoCoMo on actually repairing its network instead of giving us more useless toys.

Vodafone becomes Softbank Mobile on October 1.

Yoshi’s take: That’s a logo? It looks like an equals sign.
