Maycom’s newest PMP is the M-bird XZ-22, a 65g player with up to 2Gb of flash memory inside and a 2.2in LCD. It handles MP3, WMA and OGG, has an FM tuner and supports USB 2.0 OTG.

You know how we’re always bringing you the first reviews of cool new products, such as the HDR-HC3 high-def camcorder or the SO902i IC-card cellphone? Well, here’s another, just to prove we’re the nice guys you thought we could be.

Those excellent folks at Clarion have added iPod video-playing capability to their latest HDD car navi consoles/entertainment systems. Among a bunch of new models, the MAX960HD and MAX860HD will have the video playback function, although for some reason the cable that plugs the ‘pod into the Clarion universe won’t be out until August.

Next month will see the release of a video recorder designed specifically to get content into shape for watching on Sony’s PSP. The MSVR-A10 encodes from either of two inputs into MPEG-4 at varying bitrates, allowing up to 8.5 hours on a 2Gb MS Pro Duo (that’s at 384kbps).

Sony’s new HC3 high-definition camcorder is certainly gaining a lot of coverage in both the tech and non-specialist media and rightly so, as it blazes a trail into consumer HD video territory.

At today’s launch of Sony’s HDR-HC3, the smallest and lightest HD camcorder yet released, the company proudly trumpeted it as the “trump card” in its envisaged world of high-definition content creation, editing and sharing.

The long-rumored HDR-HC3 has finally been announced and it’s looking a sure bet to improve upon its predecessor, the HC1, mainly because of a considerably smaller body and more filmic flexibility.

Toshiba, not really known for glamour but certainly for great products, continues to live up to its reputation with two new functional-but-dull gigashot tapeless camcorders that’ll be on sale from Feb. 22 here in Japan.

Canon has just announced two new camcorders; the miniDV FV M300, which will be available here mid-February, and the (DVD recording) DC40, due in shops about a month after that.

Hitachi is dishing up a new line of four WOOO camcorders that use DVDs for storage. The DZ-GX3300 S or B come with a 3.31-megapixel CCD, with the S version on sale at the end of Feb. and the B model out in the middle of March.

Un-household name Links has for our entertainment an SD card camcorder that also plays MP3s. The SkyShot 500 relies on a 4-megapixel CCD from Sony to shoot MPEG-4 at 640 x 480 pixels @ 30fps.

Further demonstrating its support of HD DVD, Microsoft announced yesterday that it will offer an external drive in the format to go along with its Xbox 360.

A clearer future for MPEG-4 beckons, as NTT has just gotten its MPEG-4 ALS (Audio Lossless Coding) standard approved by a pair of heavyweight regs and standards bodies.

The Movie Vision S from System Talks is a video/audio player that would make a great little post-Christmas treat. It has a 2.5in 960 x 240 pixel LCD and comes with 128Mb internal flash memory; it also takes SD cards and handles WMP.

With the next soccer World Cup just around the corner, LG has been doing its bit for the Korean cause.

Sony has its beady eyes on us and has just launched its all-in-one PCS-TL30 video conferencing system, which comes with a 1.3 megapixel video camera, microphone, stereo speakers and a 17in XGA LCD monitor thrown in.

Also at KES, Samsung finally unveiled its smooth-looking new PMP, the YM-PD1, and we were allowed a quick twiddle with it.

Just a quickie to point out that any PSP (non-homebrew) lovers with firmware version 2.0 installed can get themselves some, er, street cred courtesy of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Paramount Pictures’ promo for the new Jim Sheridan movie Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

Hands up if you knew that iubi = internet network + ubiquitous (anytime, anyplace). No? Thought not. Not to worry though — this Korean newcomer (sure, it was founded in 1994 but we’re not exactly on first-name terms) appears to have its R&D claws sunk firmly into the portable media player space with the release of the rather attractive PMP 2020.

Bios brings the good word on Canon’s first brave attempt at dipping its toe into the DVD camcorder market, revealing that the DC 10 and DC 20 are due to hit the streets in October.
