Tokyo Zakka gadget store summer clearance sale!




After a massive Twitter-only clearance sale last week, the doors are open to everyone and prices have been slashed, so get moving!

A story like this just cries out for a headline about Mickey Mouse phone companies, but we won’t go down that road – instead we’ll point out that Disney’s new cellphone venture is bound to go down a treat when it launches in Japan next year.





Aside from the long-scrapped Aibo, one of the most fun personal robots we’ve ever spent time with is a little Japanese chap by the name of Gogic Five who has been available there since last year in kit form for just ¥34,650 ($290).





Slightly classier than the flashlight turds we saw the other day, these tiny (1in) sushi magnets from Japan are so authentically detailed you can almost smell the North Atlantic brine off them.





We all know Japan loves its fake turds, particularly atop buildings or dangling from cellphones, but this is the first we’ve seen that doubles as a flashlight.





Nothing beats keeping innocent wildlife captive for one’s own entertainment, especially when there’s a retro feel to the cruelty, which is why I couldn’t resist these Japanese versions of those old canards known as Sea Monkeys.





If you’re still mourning the demise of Sony’s Aibo robot pet early last year, then perhaps your ears will perk up and your tail wag a little at the news that Sega Toys in Japan is releasing its own robot dog this autumn.
